America (The Book) comes from Jon Stewart and the writers of The Daily Show, bringing their fake news reporting to the literary arena, although perhaps literary is the wrong word. Their attempt to describe the history and functioning, or perhaps nonfunctioning, of American democracy takes no prisoners and takes hefty shots at the funny bones of America. Comedy often highlights truths, and the authors take a shot at occasionally at finding some nuggets of truth with their broadside of humor. America (The Book) has received mostly positive reviews with the St. Petersburg Times saying, "The laughter Stewart provokes certainly is cathartic and often it is amazingly clarifying. In encouraging more and more cynicism toward government and politicians, however, Stewart walks a narrow line between searing political commentary and frat-boy high jinx."
