Angel Time by Anne Rice
In Angel Time, Toby O'Dare is a hit man, taking orders from a mysterious man who tells him he's only killing bad people. As a young man, Toby had dreamed of either joining the priesthood or becoming a musician. A tragedy that took his mother's and siblings' lives had sent him on a downward spiral. Unable to kill any more, Toby is visited by an angel, Malchiah, who offers him a chance at redemption, but it comes with its own danger. Toby is transported to 13th-century England, where he's a Dominican priest who must save a Jewish family from persecution. Anne Rice's novel has received mostly positive reviews with the Dallas Morning News saying, "This book has all the things her readers so adore about Anne Rice's books: intimate little glimpses into her own soul, as with Toby's unabashed love of classical music, particularly the violin; a vivid and exciting clash between good and evil; and characters so lovingly drawn we can't help but root for them."
