Sonchai Jitpleecheep is back in
Bangkok Tattoo. First introduced in
Bangkok 8, Sonchai is a honest Buddhist cop with a pure heart, but he's also willing to bend the truth if it serves his purpose.
Bangkok Tattoo begins with the murder of a CIA agent in a Bangkok hotel room, and the girl with him, Chanya, works at The Old Man's Club, a sex club run jointly by Sonchai's mother and his boss, Colonel Vikorn. Vikorn immediately cooks up a coverup to blame Al Qaeda and Islamists in southern Thailand, but Sonchai's investigation quickly begins to take surprising turns. He is falling for Chanya, while at the same time discovering she has more of a past with the murder victim than was originally thought. Sonchai is the tour guide through this exotic corner of the world with a crime that needs a delicate unraveling.
Bangkok Tattoo has received mostly positive reviews with the Denver Post saying, "Despite such profound overtones,
Bangkok Tattoo is above all entertaining. Burdett's creative expression of the police procedural gives at least one Bangkok cop a very good name. May there be more cases for Sonchai Jitpleecheep to puzzle out."
