Bird Cloud by Annie Proulx
Bird Cloud is Annie Proulx's memoir about her attempt to create a home on 640 acres of land in Wyoming she calls Bird Cloud. She not only describes her attempts to forge the house into the dream house she imagines, but she describes the land and its wildlife denizens, and the history of her land. The house renovation turns nightmarish at times, and when she finds that her access road isn't plowed, she must find another place to spend her winters. Bird Cloud has received mixed reviews with the San Francisco Chronicle saying, "Bird Cloud is part personal memoir, part construction adventure, part diary about noble animals, but all of it comes together like the ingredients of a glorious meal. The reader is lucky to be invited to her table.
