The Brass Verdict by Michael Connelly
In The Brass Verdict, Michael Connelly brings together two of his characters in the same novel. Lawyer Mickey Haller, who doesn't have an office but works out of his Lincoln, inherits Jerry Vincent's legal practice when he is murdered. Mickey immediately meets Harry Bosch, who is investigating Vincent's murder, and the two don't particularly like each other. One of the cases Mickey inherits is the murder trial of a Hollywood studio owner who is charged with murdering his wife and her lover. Mickey suspects that not everything about the trial is above board, and he must reluctantly acknowledge that he needs Harry's help and protection. The Brass Verdict has received mostly positive reviews with the Portland Oregonian saying, "Everybody has secrets, everybody has issues, everybody has an agenda, and Connelly expertly unravels his characters along with his plot. Haller and Bosch predictably clash, but they also find that they have some surprising bonds. When I was done, I wished for another book featuring the two of them, and I bet my wish will come true before too much longer."
