A Carnivore's Inquiry by Sabina Murray
A Carnivore's Inquiry centers around Katherine Shea, a 23-year old woman who's left her failing art studies in Italy to come to New York. There she has a whirlwind affair with a Russian novelist whose money funds her meanderings across the U.S. and Mexico. It's a trip, though, that leaves a trail of murdered men in its wake. Katherine ponders and discusses the history of cannibalism, and the dead men may have been her victims. Or did they suffer at the hands of her tyrannical father whom she claims is chasing her or perhaps some other serial killer on her trail? Sabina Murray's A Carnivore's Inquiry has received mostly positive reviews with some misgivings. The Detroit Free Press calls it "a compelling, maddening, hilarious and mostly remarkable new novel."
