Christ The Lord: Out of Egypt by Anne Rice
Christ The Lord is narrated by the 7-year old Jesus, whose extended family is preparing to leave Alexandria, Egypt and return to Palestine. Anne Rice's novel is a reconstruction of that year in Jesus' life, drawn on research from the Gospels and other works. She re-creates the world of the Jewish family at the time, and begins the novel with the young Jesus unaware of his special birth and godly status. He does, however, find that he can perform miracles despite his family's attempts to shield him from the reason they had to flee to Egypt in the first place. It's a year that will change his life from a normal Jewish boyhood to realizing his role in the world. Christ The Lord has received mixed reviews with the New York Daily News saying, "From Lestat the vampire to Jesus the Lord is a supernatural stretch but Rice makes it. Convincingly."
