The Cookbook Collector by Allegra Goodman

The Cookbook Collector begins in 1999 and centers around two sisters, Emily and Jessamine Bach. Emily is the CEO of a Silicon Valley dot com company while Jessamine is an environmentalist and philosophy student who makes a meager living in an antiquarian book store. Emily has a wildly successful boyfriend who runs a tech company in Boston. Jessamine's boss is a retired Microsoft millionaire who is trying to obtain a cookbook collection. Emily worries about her sister's financial situation, unaware that the dot com bubble is about to burst. Jessamine isn't worried about her finances, and instead helps her boss obtain the cookbooks, drawing closer to him in the process. Allegra Goodman's novel has received positive reviews with the BookPage saying, "As Emily and Jessamine search for love and fulfillment amid economic disaster and tragedy, the reader is grateful for a skilled guide like Allegra Goodman."
