Doctors & Nurses by Lucy Ellmann
In Doctors & Nurses, Jen is an obese nurse with a voracious sexual appetite and a hatred of most anyone and anything, including herself. She arrives in a rural backwater and goes to work with Dr. Lewis. He's a handsome man, more concerned with his own image and wealth than with his patients. In his and Jen's hands, becoming one of their patients could lead to a dead end, literally. They take joy in the patients they kill, purposely or otherwise, and find an attraction for each other, yet the madwoman in the attic might have something to say about that. Lucy Ellmann's novel is full of murder, profanity, fornication, and hatred, and has received positive reviews for its skewering of life in general. The Scotsman calls it "hilariously, eye-wateringly funny."
