East of Nowhere by Robert Chalmers
East of Nowhere begins with Edward Miller, an unliked and far right newspaper editor being caught having sex with a secretary. In short order he loses his wife, his job, and his house, and hits rock bottom. Or so he thinks. He flees to Barcelona where he anonymously teaches English, and then to Florida. There, without money or passport, he finds himself a virtual prisoner in a camp for circus freaks. Edward falls in love with a woman with a disease that turns her skin to scales. She's the girlfriend, though, to the psychotic circus owner called Half Man. Will Edward change to win her heart or resort to his old tricks to get his way? Robert Chalmers' novel has received positive reviews with The Observer saying, "East of Nowhere is a good book and a great read; you turn the pages with genuine and steadily mounting amazement."
