Echo Park by Michael Connelly
In Echo Park, Michael Connelly's 11th Harry Bosch novel, Harry has come out of retirement to work the Open-Unsolved unit of the LAPD. A serial killer is caught in Echo Park with body parts in his car, and he offers to plead guilty to the murder of a woman, Marie Gesto, 13 years ago if he's spared the death penalty. Harry had worked on the Marie Gesto case, but it always eluded him. The serial killer divulges a clue that haunts Harry, a clue he missed that might have caught the murderer then, before he killed nine more people. An ambitious assistant district attorney is willing to settle the case, but something doesn't add up to Harry. Bucking his own bosses, Harry is determined to get at the truth. Echo Park has received mostly positive reviews with the San Jose Mercury News saying, "Echo Park is Michael Connelly writing pretty much at the top of his craft, which is to say at the top of mystery writing today."
