Ford County by John Grisham

Ford County is a collection of seven stories, all set in Ford County, Mississippi. The stories include two brothers and their mother visiting another brother on death row for what might be the last time; a lawyer who encounters a man from his past who is bent on revenge; a group of men who make the trip to Memphis to donate blood for an injured man, except nothing goes as planned; a lawyer who receives a large amount of money for minimal work and then makes life-changing decisions because of it; a man who learns to count cards at blackjack in hopes of recovering the lost parts of his life. John Grisham's collection of short stories has received mostly positive reviews with BookPage saying, "Readers will enjoy getting sucked into this world of small-town corruption and Sonic drive-ins, kind-hearted neighbors and sleazy businessmen. And although there's little doubt that Grisham will return to the thrillers that made him famous, here's hoping that Ford County is the precursor of many collections to come."
