The Fourth Bear by Jasper Fforde
The Fourth Bear finds Jack Spratt of the Nursery Crime Division, along with Mary Mary, back solving crimes committed by or against the fairy tale characters in Reading, England. This time it's Goldlocks that's gone missing and the vile and evil Gingerbread Man is the prime suspect. Jack is in trouble for botching an earlier investigation and his second marriage is going through a rocky period. Having Punch and Judy living next door isn't helping either. Jack is a dogged investigator, though, following every lead, chasing down every clue, and dealing with explosive cucumbers It's another typical Jasper Fforde novel, full of puns and jokes, while skewering the very style of traditional English murder mystery as the one he's written. The Fourth Bear has received mostly positive reviews with the USA Today saying, "The Fourth Bear is brilliantly, breathlessly odd."
