Genesis by Jim Crace
Genesis tells the story of Felix Dern, also called Lix, and the story of the women in his life and the children born from those relationships. Lix is cursed, if you will, by impregnating every woman with whom he's had intercourse. Some were conceived during marriage, others during moments of passion, and some from convenient trysts. Set in an unnamed European city referred to as the City of Kisses, Lix is a successful actor who struggles to make sense of the women, and children, of his life. Jim Crace explores how sex and relationships, and their consequences, make up a life and a city. Genesis has received mixed reviews with the St. Petersburg Times saying, "Proving once again that he is a dazzling and original writer, Crace looks down from a night sky at countless points of light and shows us the moments of true grace that draw us homeward."
