The Girl with No Shadow is Joanne Harris' sequel to her bestselling Chocolat. Vianne Rocher has left the small French village of Lansquenet-sous-Tannes with her daughters, Anouk and Rosette, and settles into the Montmartre section of Paris with the new name of Yanne Charbonneau. She finds work in a local cafe and takes it over years later when its owner dies. Eschewing magic and determining to lead a normal life, she turns the cafe into a chocolaterie. Anouk, now called Annie, finds she doesn't fit in and is tempted to use magic to defend herself. Their lives are further complicated by Zozie, a young woman who helps out at the store and has nefarious motives of her own, and Thierry, who has his own reasons for courting Yanne. The Girl with No Shadow has received mostly positive reviews with BookReporter.com saying, "This novel has something for almost everyone --- drama, romance, comedy, supernatural dealings, thrills --- and I highly recommend it."
