The Godfather Returns by Mark Winegardner
This book is titled The Godfather: The Lost Years in the UK.
The Godfather Returns is meant to fill in the gaps between Mario Puzo's original The Godfather and the subsequent movies made from it. Set between 1955 and and 1962, Michael Corleone consolidates his power over the family's enterprises. Kay eventually discovers the truth behind her husband and what it means for her family. Tom Hagen pursues a political career and Fredo struggles with his sexual identity and the ramifications of his betrayal reverberate through all their lives. Nick Geraci, once an enforcer for Michael, becomes his archrival and may be more brutal than Michael. The Sheas, a family whose fortune was made from bootlegging wants Corleone help in getting one of their sons elected to the White House. Mark Winegardner was tapped by Random House to write this version of The Godfather saga and The Godfather Returns has received mixed reviews. The New York Times calls it "a solid enough performance: dutiful, suspenseful and only occasionally annoying."
