If You Liked School, You'll Love Work by Irvine Welsh
If You Liked School, You'll Love Work consists of four short stories and one novella. "Rattlesnakes" is about a group of young Americans stranded in the Nevada desert and their encounters with a rattlesnake and a psychotic man. "The DOGS of Lincoln Park" is about a group of snobby Chicago girls and a Korean chef who turns the tables on them. "Miss Arizona" is about a writer meeting an evil taxidermist. "If You Liked School, You'll Love Work" is about an expatriate Englishman who runs a bar in the Canary Islands. The novella, "Kingdom of Fife," is about a failed jockey who spends his days in a bar lusting after a goth woman. Irvine Welsh's collection has received mixed reviews with The Telegraph saying, "His scabrous stories come close to caricature but they are also teeming and robust. Don't be fooled by all the drugs and sex: at heart, Welsh is a good, old-fashioned stylist."
