In Patricia Henley's second novel, Ruth Ann Bond is a middle-aged woman whose life is falling apart around her. Her daughter has come out as a lesbian, the aunt who raised her is dying, and the illegitimate and secret son she gave up in Vietnam 30 years ago wants to get to her know her. Her "perfect" marriage is threatened by the exposed secret and her husband is also dealing with issues of his own Vietnam past. Ultimately, this is a novel about family ties and the search for identity and faith in a world we can't control. The Denver Post calls this book "a gem."
