Isn't It Romantic? by Ron Hansen
In Ron Hansen's Isn't It Romantic?, Natalie, a French librarian who is bored with her life and her fiancé, Pierre, embarks on a bus tour of the United States. Pierre catches up with her in Omaha and the two ride the bus together until it breaks down in Seldom, Nebraska, population 395. Neither Natalie or Pierre are prepared for small town middle-America, nor is the town prepared for them. Throw together the culture clash, the quirky town characters, and the zany antics of pursued love accompanied by miscommunication, confusion, and erroneous assumptions, and you have a piece of comedy that is drawn high praise from most reviewers. The Charlotte Observer says of Isn't It Romantic?, "be prepared to be unexpectedly charmed, delighted, even touched."
