Just After Sunset by Stephen King
With Just After Sunset, Stephen King delivers his first collection of his own short stories in six years. Many of these stories were previously published in magazines and some of them are new. Some of his characters are those suffering from the disadvantaged side of life and seemingly mundane items bring the thrill or horror to their lives, like an exercise bike or a killer cat. Others find the horror coming from within, such as the obsessive-compulsive man losing his grip on reality, or from others who wish them harm, such as the woman who went out for a run and finds herself running for her life or the old man who has been feuding with a neighbor for a long time. Just After Sunset has received mostly positive reviews with the USA Today saying, "All 13 stories are wonderfully wicked and highlight what happens when, as one character says, 'a trapdoor open(s) between reality and the twilight zone' and "anything is possible.' Pull the trapdoor open, read these stories, and, if you're blessed with a boring life, pray that it stays that way."
