Killer Instinct by Joseph Finder
In Killer Instinct, Jason Steadman is your run-of-the-mill businessman with a career going nowhere, because he lacks ambition and a killer instinct. Even his wife wishes he had a better career. After a car accident, Steadman meets the tow truck driver Kurt Semko, an ex-Special Forces man just home from Iraq. Steadman inserts Semko as the ringer in a corporate softball game and then gets him a job in his company's security department. Soon Steadman's corporate rivals begin to suffer accidents both in and out of work, and he comes to realize that Semko is doing him favors. Semko, though, becomes a force he can't control, and Steadman must worry about becoming a target himself. Joseph Finder's novel has received mostly positive reviews with the Boston Globe saying, "Clear your schedule before you start reading Killer Instinct. This is one of those books that, once you start reading, you won't be able to put down."
