The Last Goodbye by Reed Arvin
Jack Hammond, the narrator in The Last Goodbye, was a high-powered young Atlanta lawyer until a fall from grace left him with a small practice as a court-appointed attorney. When his friend, Doug, a computer hacker and recovered addict is found dead from an overdose, Jack suspects murder. He hires another hacker to find what Doug was up to, and discovers Doug had an obsession with a local opera singer whose husband is the CEO of a drug firm. Jack's investigation leads him through different strata of Atlanta's society and potentially through the same temptations that led to his original disgrace. Reed Arvin's novel has met with high praise with the Denver Post saying, "The Last Goodbye is an intelligent novel, one that takes no shortcuts and deserves all the attention it is sure to get."
