The Long Fall by Walter Mosley
The Long Fall finds author Walter Mosley leaving his Easy Rawlins character and heading east to New York. Leonid McGill is a black private investigator with an office in Manhattan. He's an ex-boxer raised on the tough streets of the city and he's trying to hold his unhappy marriage together. He's hired to find some men based only on their teenage street names. When these men begin to turn up dead, McGill knows something's wrong and he's caught in the middle of it. To make matters worse, his teenage son plans a murder to exact revenge. The Long Fall has received mostly positive reviews with the Washington Post saying, "Mosley cinches these plots elegantly together as he moves McGill between the worlds of new and old money and into the lives of crooks, cops and every species in between. We follow eagerly, seduced by Mosley's laconic style and by a newly arrived hero who seems to have been around forever."
