The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon by David Grann
The Lost City of Z is David Grann's account of British explorer Percy Harrison Fawcett and his search for a lost city in the Amazon forest. Fawcett was obsessed with finding this lost city he named Z, but is probably the same El Dorado that many other explorers have put their lives on the line to find. He spent 20 years exploring the Amazon and in 1925 he disappeared for good. His disappearance caused others to search for him or to continue his quest. David Grann not only chronicles Fawcett's obsession, but he goes to the Amazon to follow his footsteps. The Lost City of Z has received positive reviews with the Washington Post saying, "Grann's voyage, in other words, was no disappointment to him. Nor is it to readers. Although Fawcett's story cuts through 100 years of complicated history, Grann follows its twists and turns admirably. Thoroughly researched, vividly told, this is a thrill ride from start to finish."
