The Lost Garden by Helen Humphreys
In Helen Humprey's The Lost Garden, Gwen Davis, a 35-year old plain woman, leaves her beloved London at the beginning of World War II for the countryside. She's lived a lonely and loveless life, but that all changes when she volunteers for agricultural work at a neglected estate.
