Lost In The Forest by Sue Miller
Lost In The Forest is set in the wine country of California where Eva and Mark are a divorced couple who share custody of their teenage daughters. Eva is happily remarried to John and has a son by him. When John is killed in a car accident, their world is torn apart. Eva's grief almost debilitates her and John steps in by taking more time with the girls, but finds he also wants to console Eva. The oldest daughter, Emily, is getting ready to leave for college and uses her burgeoning independence as a steppingstone to deal with the loss. Theo, the son, is too young to understand it all except that his dad is never coming back. Daisy, the 15-year old daughter suddenly finds her world doesn't make sense. As she takes her first steps into womanhood, she feels untethered and unnoticed. Except for Duncan, a 53-year old man who preys on Daisy's vulnerabilities, starting an affair with her that will further upset all their lives. Sue Miller's novel has received positive reviews with Entertainment Weekly saying, "But as in all six of Miller's tough, graceful novels, she pulls you into her everyday drama of people screwing up and mending (and screwing up again) their personal lives in endless, amazing variations."
