Lost Light by Michael Connelly
Michael Connelly's ninth Harry Bosch novel, Lost Light, finds Harry bored and restless with retirement from the police force. When a paralyzed cop recovering from his injuries gives Harry new leads about an unsolved 4-year old murder and robbery case, Harry dives right back into detective work, but this time as a private citizen. It turns out to be a case the police department or the FBI doesn't want anyone investigating. Harry even gets arrested and thrown in jail underneath the statutes of the Patriot Act for his refusal to leave the case alone. Harry's story is told as a first-person narrative this time, bringing more depth and understanding to his character. The Washington Post calls Lost Light "one of his best."
