The Lost Painting: The Search For Caravaggio's Masterpiece by Jonathan Harr

The Lost Painting of this book's title is Caravaggio's "The Taking of Christ." It was a masterpiece lost for 200 years. Italian graduate student Francesca Cappelletti discovers a clue in the basement of a palazzo by the Adriatic Sea. It sends her on a quest, following each clue that leads down the path that tells the history of the painting. It's not until she ends up in Ireland with art restorer Sergio Benedetti, that the mystery is finally solved. Jonathan Harr (author of A Civil Action) has written a nonfiction art history mystery which has received positive reviews. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review says, "Jonathan Harr's account of the search for a lost 17th-century masterpiece may be this year's most exciting detective story, one whose pace and skill of telling draw you in, even if you know the story from past reporting, or know or care little about paintings and art history."
