Love in Idleness by Amanda Craig
In Love in Idleness, Amanda Craig does a modern retelling of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. A group of friends and relatives from New York and London rent a Tuscan villa for what they envision as a relaxing summer holiday. A mixture of the hot Italian sun, adults who've spent their lives dancing around love and emotion, and children who concoct a love potion to give to the adults make for a forging of new relationships and a blurring of the boundaries between dreams and reality. This light-hearted summer fare has received mostly positive reviews. Salon.com says, "Craig's bardlike command of the story doesn't waver, and she masterfully conjures the poetic beauty of the Tuscan countryside, making Love in Idleness a perfect read for a summer vacation -- or for those in need of one."
