Loving Frank by Nancy Horan
Loving Frank is a fictionalized account of Frank Lloyd Wright's torrid love affair with Mamah Borthwick Cheney. Mamah and her husband hired Frank to design a house for them, and the attraction between Frank and Mamah simmered for years. Both were married with kids during an age where divorce was a rare event with social and cultural perils, especially for a woman. In 1909, Frank and Mamah left the spouses and children and sailed for Europe. They eventually returned and Frank designed the house Taliesin for her in Wisconsin. Tragedy eventually claimed Mamah, leaving her a footnote in most biographies of Frank Lloyd Wright. Nancy Horan's debut novel has received mostly positive reviews with BookPage saying, "It is one thing to read of Mamah's tragic end in a paragraph or two embedded in the many accomplishments of Frank Lloyd Wright. But it is quite another to read about it after feeling you've come to know her, and that is the power of this beautiful love story."
