Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk
Chuck Palahniuk (author of Fight Club) is back with a tale of a nursery rhyme that kills. Carl Streator is a journalist investigating Sudden Infant Death Syndrome when he comes across a bedtime poem that when recited, even in his head, will kill people. Soon people who annoy him begin to drop dead. Streator realizes that if everyone knows the lullaby, civilization as we know it would end. So he teams up with a few others who know the poem and sets off on a murderous road trip to find and destroy all copies of it. Chuck Palahniuk's style draws both admirers and detractors, so it's no surprise this book is getting mixed reviews. The Minneapolis Star Tribune says of Lullaby, "Palahniuk offers in spare, straightforward prose a harrowing and hilarious glimpse into the future of civilization."
