Mr. Timothy by Louis Bayard
Mr. Timothy continues the story of Tiny Tim from Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Now an adult with a limp, he lives in a bordello where he earns his money teaching the madam to read in addition to a small stipend he receives from Ebenezer Scrooge. His life, however, seems empty and pointless. He discovers the bodies of two young girls, dead with the hands frozen like talons and with the same tattoo, and then spots a young girl with an identical tattoo. With the aid of a street kid called Colin the Melodious, Timothy sets out to find the young girl to stop her from becoming the next victim, but is soon involved in intrigues that turn against him. Louis Bayard's Mr. Timothy has received high praise with the Detroit Free Press saying, "What a terrific book."
