The Murder Room by P. D. James
P. D. James brings back detective/poet Adam Dalgliesh in The Murder Room, named for a famous room in a private museum dedicated to the interwar years in England between 1919 and 1939. The three trustees, children of the founders, are squabbling over whether or not to close the museum, when one of them is murdered. Dalgliesh's investigation uncovers a possible motive for all involved, including the curator and housekeeper. More murders occur, copy cats of the famous crimes chronicled in the Murder Room. While trying to sort out all the suspects and their hidden stories, Dalgliesh also tries to gain control of his personal life, especially his love for Emma Lavenham. The Murder Room has received praise from most reviewers with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch calling it "that much-sought-after but rare combination of reading that both transports the reader to another world and engages the imagination."
