Night Fall by Nelson DeMille
Night Fall is a mystery based around the explosion and crash of TWA Flight 800 off the coast of New York in 1996. A couple are on a Long Island beach that night, videotaping their own sexual frolicking as the plane explodes behind them. Years later after the government investigation declares the crash due to a mechanical failure, hard-boiled NYPD detective John Corey and his FBI agent wife, Kate Mayfield, begin their own investigation. They smell a cover-up and ignore orders to leave it be. Their determination leads to secrets the government wants concealed, and the video tape is the evidence they need to secure. Nelson DeMille uses his novel to explore an alternative to the government's conclusions and Night Fall has received mostly positive reviews. BookPage says, "Some readers may not agree with his conclusions, but everyone who reads Night Fall will understand the critical significance of the questions raised about national security and admire DeMille's deft blend of serious issues and spellbinding suspense."
