The Nobodies Album by Carolyn Parkhurst
In The Nobodies Album, Octavia Frost is a successful, although universally disliked, novelist. She's about the deliver her latest manuscript, titled The Nobodies Album, which takes the final chapters of her previous novels and the offers new, alternative endings. Her son, Milo, a famous rock star, is arrested for the murder of her girlfriend, and she flies off to do what she can for him. Her son hasn't spoken to her since he found allusions to a family tragedy in one of Octavia's novels. Her new novel, though, tells the truth about the tragedy. Carolyn Parkhurst's novel has received mostly positive reviews with the Washington Post saying, "The Nobodies Album is brisk and engaging, though ultimately it features very little in the way of conventional clues or suspense. But the book succeeds in probing nuanced issues of guilt and innocence through an intricate collage of memories and musings, with excerpts from Octavia's novels and passages from Milo's lyrics."
