Nobody Move by Denis Johnson
Nobody Move follows a group of criminals and losers as they all wrangle to conspire for and against each other in attempt to get their hands on a pile of money that may or may not exist. At the center of it all is Jimmy Luntz, who sings in a barbershop quartet, gambles compulsively, and owes money to a man who sends another to kill him. Jimmy teams up with Anita Desilvera, who is being framed for a crime by her husband. Anita knows where $2.3 million is stashed, which makes her both popular and dangerous. Jimmy and Anita bumble their way though conspiracies and double crosses, saved by luck and done in by fate. Denis Johnson's novel has received mostly positive reviews with the San Francisco Chronicle saying, "Johnson has a powerful gift for keeping readers just enough off balance, and it can be seen on sharp display in this taut novel billed as a mere bauble from a talented American author at play."
