Notting Hell by Rachel Johnson
Notting Hell is set in, naturally, Notting Hill, with its posh lifestyles and narcissistic, if not neurotic, residents. The two central characters are Mimi and Clare, two women overly conscious of their status in their closed society. Mimi is concerned that's she too poor since they inherited their house and didn't buy it when it was already worth millions. Clare is a neat freak with the posh house, but is unable to conceive a child. She's worried that this makes her less a woman compared to the others. She spies extramarital activity occurring in the communal garden, which becomes the center of a community struggle. She and Mimi eventually get pulled father into the contests between the wealthy and the wealthier. Rachel Johnson's novel has received mixed reviews with The Telegraph saying, "This must have been a difficult book to pull off, but Johnson has done a terrific job."
