Of Love and Evil is the second book of Anne Rice's
The Songs of the Seraphim. The first book,
Angel Time introduced the hit man Toby O'Dare, and the angel Malchiah who offers Toby the chance for redemption by traveling through time to help undo evil.
Of Love and Evil has Malchiah transporting Toby to 15th-century Rome where one brother is slowly killing another to steal his inheritance, knowing the death would be blamed on the family's Jewish physician. To make matters worse, Toby has to deal with angelic conflicts too. Anne Rice's novel has received mostly positive reviews with BookReporter.com saying, "This is a book that is written to entertain, a quick but satisfying read with literally no extra words and no lags in the pacing. Rice's fans should be more than pleased with this outstanding sequel."
