Our Kind of Traitor by John le Carre
Our Kind of Traitor begins on the island of Antigua where Perry Makepiece and Gail Perkins are an idealistic English couple on holiday. There they meet Dima, a Russian gangster who launders money for the Russian mafia. Dima is on the run with his family, and if Perry and Gail will help him defect to England, he'll tell all he knows, including how Western banks are involved with money laundering for criminals and terrorists. Different spy agencies attempt to help or stop Dima from sharing his knowledge. It's not long before Perry and Gail are in over their head. John le Carre's novel has received mostly positive reviews with The Telegraph saying, "There is enough here from the master weaver of deception among friends and enemies to allow those readers who may not share his own loss of belief to stay on board with him. The set-piece confrontations and the moments when the story turns on its axis are handled with the old magic."
