Somewhere Towards the End by Diana Athill
Somewhere Towards the End is 91-year-old Margaret Athill's memoir about her life as it nears its end. She'd never married or had children, but has lived with Jamaican playwright Barry Reckford since the 1960s. They were lovers at one point, but they remained together even as they moved on to other relationships. Athill lost her libido in her 60s and moved on to a life without sex and the changes that entailed. She finds the senior years easier to lose inhibitions and find new talents, including writing, but it's also a time when she must be the caretaker to the ailing Barry with the realization that she has nobody to take care of her. Somewhere Towards the End has received positive reviews with the London Times saying, "Books as brave, amusing and graceful as this don't spring from idle natures."
