The Thin Place is set in the fictional New England town of Varennes somewhere near the Canadian border. Three twelve-year-old girls, Mees, Sunny, and Lorna, find an apparently dead neighbor down by the lake, and while two of them go in search of help, Mees is left with the body and somehow brings it back to life. While Sunny and Lorna struggle with normal trappings of pre-teen life, Mees tries to come to grip with this special gift she has. In a small town where lives constantly intersect and few secrets are kept hidden, Mees is aware of the curse that might come with being special. Kathryn Davis (
Versailles) brings to life all the minutiae that composes small town life.
The Thin Place has received positive reviews with the Chicago Sun-Times saying, "
The Thin Place is a bright, shimmering book, and the variety of voices come together like a globe cut from glass in the sun, separating the light into tiny rainbows and then reconstructing them into pure white light."
