Too Much Money by Dominick Dunne
In Too Much Money, Gus Bailey (who is really the author Dominick Dunne) is a writer who chronicles the behavior of New York's wealthy elite. He has a symbiotic relationship with these people; they both need each other to further their own issues and fame. Gus is suffering from health issues, he's being sued for slander by a congressman, and he's writing the biography of a socialite whose husband died under mysterious circumstances. The upper crust of the social strata, though, (most of whom are thinly disguised portraits of real people), continue their shallow lives of arrogance, revenge, and back-stabbing. Dominick Dunne's posthumous novel has received mixed reviews with BookReporter.com saying, "Too Much Money gives us common people a glimpse into the glittery world of high society, with their all glamour and their foibles. Dominick Dunne makes that world as entertaining as the extravagant parties his characters attend."
