Trace by Patricia Cornwell
Trace brings Kay Scarpetta back to Richmond where she's asked by a reluctant and envious medical examiner to help with a baffling case in the death of a 14-year old girl. Kay returns to help and finds her old headquarters being demolished and the M.E.'s office in chaos and disarray. Her friend and ex-colleague Pete Marino tries to help out, but he has personal problems he won't reveal. Kay's niece, Lucy, is threatened by a mysterious man in Florida, and her lover, Henrietta, goes to see Kay's lover, psychiatrist Benton Wesley, after she's attacked. Slowly, all these threads tie together, challenging Kay to bring all her forensic skills to protect her extended family. Trace has received mixed reviews with the Denver Post saying, "Trace finds heroine Scarpetta at her feisty and scrappy best."
