Truth Like the Sun by Jim Lynch
Truth Like the Sun is set in Seattle and alternates between 1962 and 2001. In 1962, Roger Morgan is the driving force behind the World's Fair, even sketching out the idea of the Space Needle on a napkin. His boundless enthusiasm earned him the nickname "Mr. Seattle." In 2001, Roger is 70 years old and unhappy with the direction of his beloved city, so he decides to run for mayor. Helen Gulanos is an ambitious newspaper reporter who sees Roger's mayoral bid as her ticket to fame. She's certain that Roger's accomplishments must be accompanied by corruption, and she'll stop at nothing to get her exposé. Jim Lynch's novel has received mostly positive reviews with the New York Times saying, "It's impossible not to hurtle through Truth Like the Sun to see where Helen's determination to nail Roger, and Roger's determination to stay as honest with Seattle as he is with himself, will lead."
