In Under the Dome, Chester’s Mill, Maine wakes up one day to find they've been covered by a glass dome. Nobody knows where it came from, but an energy field keeps anyone from entering or exiting the dome. For Big Jim Rennie, a bigoted politician, he decides that it's time for secession and survival of the fittest. He takes over the town's police department, hiring a band of thugs to force the town to live under his control. A group of ragtag citizens decide they must overcome the evil that has swallowed their town. Stephen King's novel has received mostly positive reviews with the London Times saying, "But as an evocation of a community, this is a remarkable achievement: few other post-war writers have attempted to portray small-town America so comprehensively."
