Vanishing Acts by Jodi Picoult

The central questions in Jodi Picoult's Vanishing Acts is what do you do when you find out your life is a lie? Delia Hopkins lives in New Hampshire with her lovely daughter, helps find missing persons, and is planning her wedding. She was raised by her father after her mother died in a car accident when she was 4 years old. One day the police arrive to arrest her father and Delia is shocked to discover that much of what she's been old is a lie. With the help of her friends since childhood, Fitz and Eric, Delia sets out to find just where the truth lies and which memories she has are true. In a life upset by falsehoods, she must also find her place in the world again. Vanishing Acts has received mixed reviews with the Rocky Mountain News saying, "Extraordinarily detailed, Picoult's exhaustive work fills Vanishing Acts to the brim with realistic suspense, suggesting that often what we choose to remember doesn't astound us nearly as much as what we choose to forget."
