Vulture Peak by John Burdett
In Vulture Peak, Sonchai Jitpleecheep, the Bangkok detective who is half-American, devoutly Buddhist, yet accepting of the corrupt world of Thai police is sent to investigate the black market of human organ trafficking. The assignment came from his commander, Colonel Vikhorn, who is running for governor and may be involved in his own trafficking. Sonchai's investigation takes him around the world, but appears to center on twin Chinese sisters, both of them surgeons and known as the Vultures. Back home, rumors are that Chanya, Sonchai's ex-prostitute wife, has taken a lover. John Burdett's novel has received positive reviews with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette saying, "As usual, Mr. Burdett slips his political criticism between the sheets of a largely compelling story. Sonchai's latest adventure is fine entertainment, with bite, from an author at home in many different worlds."
