Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman by Jon Krakauer
Where Men Win Glory is Jon Krakauer's book about Pat Tillman's life and death. Tillman was the football hero who, driven by the events of 9/11, walked away from millions in salary to join the army and defend his country. In a remote part of Afghanistan, his troop of Army Rangers encountered a group of Taliban fighters and Tillman was killed in the firefight. While it was obvious that Tillman had been killed by friendly fire, the army and Bush administration decided to cover it up. They wanted an All-American hero story to divert attention from an emerging Abu Ghraib scandal. Where Men Win Glory has received mostly positive reviews with USA Today saying, "Tillman indeed was a fallen hero who, while alive, shunned all efforts to make him the poster boy of a global war against terrorism. And Krakauer's gripping book about this extraordinary man who lived passionately and died unnecessarily sets the record."
