Witches on the Road Tonight by Sheri Holman
In Witches on the Road Tonight, Eddie Alley is a young boy in a remote area of Virginia in 1940 when he has a chance encounter with Tucker Hayes, a WPA worker creating a guide for the Blue Ridge Mountains. Tucker shows Eddie his first horror movie, an old copy of Frankenstein, and also falls under the spell of Eddie's mother, Cora, who was rumored to be a witch. Tucker disappears and Eddie grows up to be Captain Casket, the host of a television show about horror movies. He marries and has a daughter, Wallis, who has apparently inherited her grandmother's paranormal abilities. An encounter with a drifter who entered into their lives has a profound effect on Wallis. Sheri Holman's novel has received mostly positive reviews with BookPage saying, "As intended, Witches on the Road Tonight haunts. As the twisted narrative unfolds with tantalizing surprises, Sheri Holman displays her own kind of sorcery, making us believe what we might not otherwise believe."
