Wrapped in Rainbows: The Life of Zora Neale Hurston by Valerie Boyd
Wrapped in Rainbows tells the story of Zora Neale Hurston, one of the most important black women writers of the early twentieth century. Her novels and plays were highly praised and she was an important literary figure of her time. Then she faded into obscurity and her books went out of print. She was mostly forgotten when she died in poverty in 1960. Praise for her work from such writers as Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, and Alice Walker have generated interest in her writings and her life again. Valerie Boyd has written a biography to tell her story and set her place, not just among black writers, but within American literature. The Boston Globe calls Wrapped in Rainbows, "an elegant and exhilarating biography."
